Take a journey back in time and voyage on New Zealand’s only operating coal fired paddle steamer.

Completely renovated from a muddy grave at the bottom of the Whanganui River as a Year 2000 Millennium project consisting of thousands of volunteer hours.

A cruise aboard the iconic Waimarie Paddle Steamer is undoubtedly one of the most authentic ways to experience Whanganui River’s scenery and history. Regular summer sailings for a two hour leisurely cruise on the Whanganui River.

The Waimarie Paddle Steamer was built in 1899 in London and was transported to Whanganui in kitset form.

Waimarie Museum houses an intricate display of river-related photography and artefacts from the last century. Uncover the colourful history of the riverboat era and the operations of the famous Hatrick & Co.
